- COST:     99 cents     - APP STORE STARS:     N/A

Games that are educational are that much more valuable to the family, and often preferred by parents. Most times, children will not even realize they are learning facts if the game is exciting and captures their attention. Guess That Flag is actually suitable for kids and adults with its multiple choice questions involving knowledge of the flags of various countries.

Adults, if you are a sports fan, and have watched big events on TV such as the Olympics or FIFA soccer just to name a few, you can recall seeing brightly colored flags waving across the field to honor the athletes. How many of those flags have you been familiar with, however? Even though you studied world geography in school, the old memory starts to slip, and pretty soon you are lucky if you remember the flags of the 5 largest countries! That's where Guess That Flag is going to be beneficial to you!

Kids can play or just take time to enjoy learning about the various flags as they scroll through. Let me say though the game can get pretty intense and difficult as you progress through the difficulty levels! So let's take a look at some of the entertaining and educational features of this iPhone educational game on learning flags:

- Browse mode if you want to learn and educate yourself or your children in geography.

- Great graphics for each flag-each flag as its own screen which makes for great screen shots of that flag

- Over 140 flags in the app

- 4 different difficult settings to help get you ready for expert mode

- All multiple choice questions

- Hours of fun with friends and family

- Free updates at least 3 times a year to improve the app

- Learn all the Nations' flags for a multitude of tournaments

Spend relaxing time with the family guessing which country each flag belongs to. Talk about that country and share what information you have. Enjoy quality family time as you talk about different cultures and countries and what makes each special.

There currently is a competition being held compliments of Guess That Flag where you must download the app and win the game to score big on prizes. Details of this contest can be found on the site right here!

COOL CONCLUSION: Guess That Flag with its beautiful flag graphics is a terrific way to play and enjoy an educational game with the whole family!

Florida State Parks

Developer Quote: "Stunning white-sand beaches, tropical palms, crystal-clear springs, and tours of mansions and fortresses await on your exploration of one of the United States' top state park systems with Florida State Parks. "

All too soon, autumn winds will be blowing to remind you that an icy winter for those up north will be underway. In Florida, we don't get those frigid temps (most of the time), but whether you are a Floridian or not, why not check out the gorgeous state parks in Florida? Take a weekend getaway if your summer vacation is over. The weather is always fine here (okay, let's not discuss pending hurricanes!).

We don't just have beaches in Florida, although that is fine enough for me. We have other types of natural flora and fauna that you and the family will thoroughly enjoy. In this informational app by Sandra Friend, author of 14 guides to hiking and travel showcasing Florida, you will learn all about the many outdoors activities available at over 100 parks in Florida. Locate parks nearby, as well as by specific city, cost, and by categories such as guided tours, historic sites and cabin rentals.

First of all, you'll see a brief Tutorial pointing you to various points within this Florida State Parks iPhone app. Browse About Park Fees, About Park Rules and About Pets. Then scroll down to browse parks in an alphabetical order. The first view on this page of an attraction will tell you the entrance fee, one key activity or theme about that spot, and the distance to get there from your current location.

Once you tap the park and arrive on that page, you can view all sorts of helpful information including a Park Map, Activities, Outfitters, and a description of the park itself. Share your thoughts or questions or favorite a particular park. Tap the Photos button to see a marvelous collection of pics from each park. A map of Florida displays the placement of all parks in the state. Finally, read people's comments on parks they have visited to get their personal opinion and ideas on how to make the most of your visit.

So what's your relaxation fix? Swimming, camping, scuba diving, paddling, backpacking? There's going to be something here for everyone at several of these state parks that will make you want to come back to Florida again and again. If you live in this tropical paradise, use this fact-filled guide to discover all the treasures you've been missing!

COOL CONCLUSION: Enjoy the lush beauty of Florida with a thoroughly detailed guide listing a wealth of information in Florida State Parks.

iTranslate Voice HD

Developer Quote: "Can you imagine talking into your phone in one language and immediately hearing yourself in another language? That’s exactly what iTranslate Voice HD does."

- COST:     99 cents     - APP STORE STARS:     4
- Categories: Education, Languages, Lifestyle, Native, Productivity, Reference, Travel

So we are excitedly awaiting the commencement of the Olympics 2012 which starts tomorrow in London, England! What an exciting time this is going to be for athletes and sports aficionados worldwide! How many of us are traveling to England? Can you imagine the babel of voices that will be found there as people travel to events and vacation throughout a country they may not have yet visited?

Though you speak English (or whatever your native tongue), you may wish to converse with someone from a faraway country and actually understand all he or she has to say. iTranslate Voice HD can help you do this. It lets you speak your native tongue into your iPad, have it translated then spoken back to you in any of 31 included languages! This handy language reference and travel iPad app contains the following useful features:

- Instantly speak in several languages...
Start a voice to voice conversation in one of 31 languages and dialects.

- Look up words...
Read definitions and meanings for common words and phrases using your voice.

- Share translations...
Click on a translation to copy, mail, text or tweet it.

- Accurate voice recognition...
The voice recognition is so accurate you won't need your keyboard anymore.

- Edit translations...
If you prefer, you may use the keyboard.

What are some of the uses of this app? Well, I've just mentioned that while traveling you may enjoy your trip quite a bit more if you could switch languages in a heartbeat! Language lovers can learn a new language, and teachers could even use this utility in the classroom to help educate kids in a modern and enjoyable way.

Like most translators, you will get fairly accurate translations, but they may not match the easy, casual speech of the native speaker. If you are using this app while in your native country, data usage is not a problem. However, if you want to be a language connoisseur while traveling, then realize you will perhaps need a global data package or WiFi in a friend's house, as an active connection is needed. Overall, I'd say the ease and convenience of foreign speech using iTranslate Voice HD is a great reason to have this utility on your device!

Supported languages & dialects:
English (US), English (UK), English (Australia), Spanish (Spain), Spanish (United States), Spanish (Mexico), French (France), French (Canada), German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin (China), Mandarin (Taiwan), Cantonese, Korean, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Portuguese (Portugal), Portuguese (Brazil), Polish, Russian

COOL CONCLUSION: iTranslate Voice HD helps keep you in the conversation and the swing of things by allowing you to speak in any of the given languages whether traveling or learning at home.

Twist

Developer Quote: "Twist   lets your family, friends and colleagues know when you will arrive. Twist also alerts them when you are almost there and if you are running late."

- COST:     Free     - APP STORE STARS:     5
- Categories: Lifestyle, Locator, Messaging, Native, Navigation, Travel, Utilities

Yesterday's post from an informative blogger taught me about a helpful app that I'd like to share. Since I had to make a long, arduous, nerve-wracking, road-congested trip to Miami today, I welcomed any and all suggestions on how to arrive alive and let people know I'm on my way! (Truth is, Miami is a terrific, vibrant city, but the traffic there is hellish!)

Twist runs along the lines of Google Latitude, Find Friends or numerous other apps which show where your friends are at any given time. What is unique about Twist, however, is the fact that you can set it up to alert your friends or family via text, e-mail and push notification of your time of departure, location during your trip and expected arrival a couple minutes prior to that time. This easily lets people know how your time schedule is running so they can get on with their lives while waiting, and most importantly, it frees you up from the deadly addiction of texting while driving because Twist will notify those waiting. Your friends do not even have to use the Twist app or have an iPhone. Take a look at the helpful features of this navigation, locator, text utility:

☀ Pick destinations by dropping a pin on the map
☀ Send twists to email addresses as well as mobile phones
☀ Twists contain helpful information about your destination, including Street View, Yelp reviews and the weather
☀ Clearer indication when your recipients got notified, and now you can see when they actually viewed your twist
☀ You can now share photos on your twist
☀ Easily reply back to a twist that you're going there too
☀ Ability to clear out old twists and destinations

You'll want to create your twist before you travel. That means you must set up where you are going and whom you want notified (use your contact list if you wish). If you make this trip regularly, save it as a Favorite and use it often. Select if your travel is by car, bus, walk or bike. A super feature here is that you can protect your privacy if you choose. Twist will share with selected folks 3 items: When you leave, Your location en route and When you are close to arrival. So, here's the thing...if you don't want someone to know where you are coming from (one of those twisted secret things!) you can tap that button so it will not disclose that bit of information.

Once you Create and Start your twist, the display will show your route on the map, streetview and weather conditions, share photos, display the people you have selected to receive your twist and show messages which lets you know your auto messages via Twist have been sent and received. How convenient is all that information automated from within one app! Plus, you never have to lift a finger to let friends know where you are or when you'll arrive. Twist is your travel assistant that does an excellent job of informing others without breaching your privacy.

COOL CONCLUSION: Wherever you travel, Twist is an indispensable tool that will automatically and accurately alert your family or friends of your departure, location and arrival so that you can concentrate on driving safely, not on texting your whereabouts!

--Date/Version: Updated 6/14/12 - Version 0.9.8
--iOS/Age Rating:  This app requires iOS 4.0 or later. Rated 4+.
--Device: iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
--Note: Twist is currently available in the US only. World-wide release coming soon.
--Developer: Twist and Shout, Inc.
