There's nothing better to me than reading an exciting book with lots of mystery and intrigue involved. Did you know the same holds true for kids? They love a good adventure and searching for hidden items much like a scavenger hunt. Treasure Kai and the Lost Gold of Shark Island is a wonderful interactive story to grab kids' attention, and get them "digging" for gold in an extraordinary treasure hunt designed just for them! Children 5 years and up will be totally engrossed taking part in this lovely story.

Let me first explain that Treasure Kai and the Lost Gold of Shark Island is adapted from an award winning children’s book by Karen Robertson. The actual book is unique in that not only is it filled with excitement, but it comes with little treasure chests of objects with which the kids interact as they read. There are different Treasure Kai books with a similar theme that have children using all their senses and imagination to unearth hidden mysteries and treasures. Turning this excellent physical book into an electronic one is a true accomplishment as it mirrors the original so closely. Yet the app is so much more thrilling with music, sound and interaction. In this particular story, lost gold treasure is eagerly sought by little Kai. Your children will be totally absorbed when embarking upon the trail of gold with lots of exciting animations, surprises and sound effects.

Some of the many engaging features of this children's interactive iPad, iPhone book app are as follows:

- Award-winning, original treasure hunt adventure story
- Pop up and touch screen sounds and animations to discover
- Hidden gold coins to treasure hunt for
- Cinematic sound effects and dramatic original score
- Stunning illustrations by an award winning illustrator
- Read-to-me or self-read options
- You control the text box size and placement

Your story starts off by introducing Kai, his friend Kate and where they live. You get a great feel for Kai's adventurous personality here. One night as he is going to sleep, Kai begins to dream and finds himself rowing out to Shark Island where the action begins. In the story, Kai will explore jungles, castles and pyramids and find a treasure chest of sparkling jewels. Interactivity is the key that keeps kids turning the pages, and thirsting after more adventure and knowledge. They will find plenty of all these things in Treasure Kai and the Lost Gold of Shark Island.

One of the cool things you can do while progressing through the app is move reading text boxes around and enlarge them as necessary. My special delight is turning on and off Kai's night table lamp which is just a small example of great attention paid to details throughout. Perfectly suited adventure sound tracks add intrigue to the story. To me it almost seems that Kai is a miniature Indiana Jones in this exciting book where he must escape mazes and pass by spooky skeletons and other daunting obstacles. You'll find bats, snakes and native warriors. But in the end, finding the treasure box of jewels makes it all worthwhile! Tap the end page to start this wondrous adventure all over again!

This book has a little bit of everything in it to absorb all your senses: beautiful graphics, rhymes that give you hints on solving the puzzles, awesome sound effects, action and adventure in other mysterious worlds. The feeling of accomplishment on finding the gold is wonderful. After all, who wouldn't enjoy unearthing a chest of gold coins and sparkling jewels after a well-thought out, exciting journey to get there? Parents and children alike will be as spell-bound as I was on reading this glorious tale.

COOL CONCLUSION: "Enjoy the suspense and excitement of treasure hunting in Treasure Kai and the Lost Gold of Shark Island where imagination and adventure spring to life!"

We spend a great deal of time focusing on maintaining physical health, flexibility, stamina and endurance. These are all major areas of continuous self-improvement. However, it is equally important not to forget the crucial areas of our brain and mental fitness in keeping ourselves in tip-top shape from head to toe. Doctors have stated the importance of keeping your mind alert by completing puzzles and activities of all kinds on a daily basis. This is no old wive's tale and is purely scientific. Look no further than CogniFit Brain Fitness for iPad. This very noteworthy and scientific app uses specific technology to keep your mind alert, fit and working to its peak ability. CogniFit is available on the App Store for both iPhone and iPad; however, this review is about the iPad version. Using the beautiful retina display with large, clear and sharp graphics is the perfect way to experience this app. Let's take a look at some of the intelligent features of this health and fitness, brain power training iPad app:

- Train your brain on the go
: Assess yourself and discover your cognitive and mental health

- Get personalized results for key cognitive abilities such as your memory, focus and attention

- Train with the CogniFit patented personalized training or decide to play single games

- Compare your scores with others if you wish
- Challenge and play with your friends and other from around the world

- Cognitive skills and abilities you will train include:
        Auditory Short-Term Memory, Contextual Memory, Distance Estimation, Divided Attention, Focus, Eye-Hand Coordination, Response Time, Spatial Perception and many other crucial abilities

Start Training to learn how to use this app. There are simple but helpful instructions along with a graphic explaining the required skills for each task. For instance when I trained on Word Quest, skills included: Working Memory, Divided Attention, Spatial Perception and Planning. I was presented with a word box puzzle in which I had to find the hidden words based on the corresponding graphics. The Aztec style images are authentic looking stone and symbols and wording is easy to read. The next training item was Mouse Challenge in which you must tap quickly on items in a specific order. Hit the big red button at the correct time to eliminate the cows. If you tilt your device, the cross-hair will move over each animal. Other games included are: Crossroads, Fuel a Car, Jigsaw, Mahjong, Whack-A-Mole and Words Birds. Once I had completed Training, a summary was displayed on the status of my abilities. Let me say I definitely intend to improve my mental acuity!

Now on to more fun and brain teasing! I picked the activity named Crossroads to further stimulate my mind. At this point, you can Create a Challenge with a friend, or Play without Neurons. Cognitive skills involved were: Updating, Visual Scanning and Focus. I chose to Play without Neurons. In this activity, prevent rolling balls from colliding by tapping them when two approach an intersection in a head-on collision course. Glossy colored balls on turf with a board comprised of grid stones roll at their own momentum. Be quick to tap and avoid a collision! This is an exciting physics puzzler game reminding me that everyone in the family can fully enjoy these mind and flexibility games. Eye catching graphics and smooth operations make each activity a joy!

How can CogniFit Brain Fitness for iPad benefit you? Use it to possibly aid in the prevention of Alzheimer's Disease, Dementia, Parkinsons, ADHD, Multiple Sclerosis and other neurological diseases. In fact, Cognifit has been reviewed in many scientific publications which recognize the huge benefits of these health activities. One example of published acclaim is in the following paragraph on their site: "Shatil E, Korczyn AD, Peretzc C, et al. - Improving cognitive performance in elderly subjects using computerized cognitive training - Alzheimer's & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association 2008; 4(4):T492". There are many more testimonials from well recognized associations.

Use this app to continue the training and learning benefits provided on the Cognifit site. Combing through the scientific information on the site will have you totally convinced in no time of the huge health and mental benefits of CogniFit. Virtual Human Body

Developer Quote: "Discover what’s hiding within your body: locate the various organs in their context, and learn more about their functions with Virtual Human Body."

- COST:     $4.99     - APP STORE STARS:     3
- Categories: Education, Health and Fitness, Medical, Native, Universal

Being in the medical field, I'm often eager to pick up on as much information as possible about the human body, illnesses and other medical issues. There are a few medical apps on my phone. However, Virtual Human Body, is quite diverse in its own way as it affords a complete view of the human body. And not just the skeleton either! Explore the skin, muscles, organs and bones of this realistic virtual body. Let's take a look at the many useful and unique features of this iPhone and iPad medical and educational app of the human body:

• 11 systems of the human body depicted through our lifelike model
• Over 1000 anatomical structures named and defined
• Anatomical dictionary including a textual search engine
• Possibility to overlap two systems so as to better visualize the interrelations between bones, muscles and organs
• Three display modes:
        * model only
        * model with red markers
       (gives access to the name of each structure)
        * model with overlapping window
       (allows you to display two systems simultaneously)
• Various points of view on the human body using:
        * Zoom tool
       (allows you to enlarge a system up to 16 times its original size)
        * Layer tool
       (gives access to cross-sections)
        * Multiple view angles
       (anterior, posterior, lateral, superior and inferior)
• Easy navigation: tap a red marker to access all the information related to an anatomical structure.
• A search engine to quickly locate a structure and situate it in its context
• A rich anatomical dictionary

On launching Virtual Human Body, you can select to Start Here, or get Help on how to navigate the app. The Help button contains a short series of scroll through screens with descriptions on each icon which will appear with the body in your lower display. The instructions are simple to understand and concise.

Start Here brings up the model of the human body. Tap to open the Systems list and select from 11 choices including: Morphology, Skeleton, Muscles, Nervous System and more. Choose which Layer to view. The first pertains to the main view, while each other Layer corresponds to a cross section. Also, you may choose which view you'd like to examine first: from Anterior, Posterior or Lateral. Tap the Pins button and you'll see a series of red pins appear. Now, when you tap each of these, the name of that body part appears with a brief description about it. When you tap Dual View, a helpful overlay will display the normal exterior of the human body over the skeletal visual. This serves to pinpoint where each body part is located exactly.

I was quite impressed with the details contained in the app which at the same time were all clearly explained. Virtual Human Body could well be a first-class helper to students in anatomy, biology or science classes. Conversely, a teacher could use this app to show all the details of the human body for it serves as a sort of road map to outline each and every tiny feature. Let me not forget to add the Search bar which when tapped provides an alphabetical terminology listing of every item included in the human body. Not only that - but when the terminology is tapped, you will then zoom in on the corresponding body part!

We definitely recommend this thorough educational tool to anyone of an age to learn about anatomy for any reason whatsoever. The display on iPad, as this is a Universal app, is wonderfully large and clear, thus perfect for the classroom. Push your mind a little further as you explore and discover all the wonders of the human body!

COOL CONCLUSION: Harness the intelligence included in Virtual Human Body to fill your mind with as many details as possible about the body, done in an easy-to-understand format with clear visuals and excellent accompanying descriptions.
