There's nothing better to me than reading an exciting book with lots of mystery and intrigue involved. Did you know the same holds true for kids? They love a good adventure and searching for hidden items much like a scavenger hunt. Treasure Kai and the Lost Gold of Shark Island is a wonderful interactive story to grab kids' attention, and get them "digging" for gold in an extraordinary treasure hunt designed just for them! Children 5 years and up will be totally engrossed taking part in this lovely story.

Let me first explain that Treasure Kai and the Lost Gold of Shark Island is adapted from an award winning children’s book by Karen Robertson. The actual book is unique in that not only is it filled with excitement, but it comes with little treasure chests of objects with which the kids interact as they read. There are different Treasure Kai books with a similar theme that have children using all their senses and imagination to unearth hidden mysteries and treasures. My special delight is turning on and off Kai's night table lamp which is just a small example of great attention paid to details throughout. Perfectly suited adventure sound tracks add intrigue to the story. To me it almost seems that Kai is a miniature Indiana Jones in this exciting book where he must escape mazes and pass by spooky skeletons and other daunting obstacles. You'll find bats, snakes and native warriors. But in the end, finding the treasure box of jewels makes it all worthwhile! Tap the end page to start this wondrous adventure all over again!

This book has a little bit of everything in it to absorb all your senses: beautiful graphics, rhymes that give you hints on solving the puzzles, awesome sound effects, action and adventure in other mysterious worlds. Objective: Grouping objects based on their characteristics or uses.


Game 2 - The Clown Fishes!: An important fundamental here is simply to Follow the Instructions and place the clown fish on the correct spaces in order to see them dance. Your child will giggle with glee to see fish dance!
Objective: Learning about spatial sense and directions.

Game 3 - The Crabs!: Grammatical elements are incorporated here as your child forms a sentence by placing the crabs in the correct order. Once done correctly, the sentence will be represented by a dance of the crabs! This activity can be shared and enjoyed by two.
Objective: Understanding grammatical order in sentences.


I began the game with the Octopus activity as Boing directs kids to find hidden objects. This requires some thought as objects are placed behind items in the sea. When Boing requests you to find a ball, bike, or other item which is not readily visible, simply tap each piece of scenery until you discover it. Sometimes there is a clue as you see a shadow barely visible behind the sea habitation. Note that you can scroll to the right to find additional scenery in which to hunt your hidden objects.

You will need to upgrade with the 99 cent In-App option to play the 2 remaining educational games. When you play with the Clown Fish (or Listening Comprehension activity), you will be directed to locate the clown fish in specific spots such as "in front of", "behind the", next to the" etc. As you tap that area, the fish will pop up, snazzily dressed in costume! This is a great exercise in following Instructions and also increasing knowledge of names of items.

Sentence Formation (the game with the colorful Crabs) offers you the choice of playing alone or with someone. Level 1 starts off with placing the crabs in the correct order. Match the color crab to the spot on the sand to make a special sentence. Each crab will have an item image on their shell. When the crabs are lined up in order, the images will actually spell out a sentence such as, "The lollipop kisses the shovel!" Tap the green conch shell for a lively dance animation by these crusty crustaceans! You can't help but smile and admire this crab show!


As your child plays and learns, the clock is ticking measuring progress. In i Learn With Boing: Ocean Adventures!, the sea world is a wonderful kaleidoscope of colors that kids will enjoy. Soft music plays in the background, and if you don't finish your activity within the allotted time frame, Boing instructs you to start again. In the helpful Parents Center, follow your child's learning in all 3 areas of Vocabulary, Listening Comprehension and Sentence Formation to see the knowledge increase over 3 levels. This lively, thoughtfully planned educational game is a lovely addition to your child's learning instruction. It is quite a delight to see them happily involved with the sea creatures while thoughtfully considering every tap representing a facet of their enjoyable education!

Since many of us are on summer vacation with kids sleeping in late, watching too much TV or just causing mayhem, perhaps letting them have a go at iMathGenius will keep their brains sharp for the next couple months as well as entertain them! This educational app contains your standard math operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. To provide various levels of difficulty, numbers range from single integer to multiple digits with decimals. With this kind of flexibility, the youngest to the eldest in your family can play at a level to match his or her math skill, with no frustration necessary. (Oh, and that includes you, Mom and Dad!)

iMathGenius is conveniently simple to operate. On launching the app, type in your name and age. At that point, a recommended test level with questions are selected. If you feel you don't like the looks of those questions, don't worry. You can always choose a different level. This is a type of multiple test game as every question has five possible responses, so your part is to guess (or know!) the right one. When answering correctly, you receive points which are added to your score board. Toggle your music off or on depending on how well you work with distractions!
