First Time Christmas

Developer Quote: "First Time Christmas app is the very first iOS app to pull all of your Christmas tasks together in one organized, sorted and scheduled package."

- COST:     $1.99     - APP STORE STARS:     N/A
- Categories: Entertainment, Lifestyle, Holidays, Native, Organization, Productivity

For those of us celebrating Christmas, I have only 3 little words for you, "Are you prepared?" I ask this because it seems that every year although I solemnly vow to begin my plans for all Christmas events on November 1st, it's usually the week before Christmas that I get into high gear. Don't judge me because I'm not alone you know! It's just such a busy time of year, we attend to all our work-related and family matters first, while neglecting our own.

Take heart, however, because help is at hand with First Time Christmas! This brand new Christmas organizational, list maker app for your iPhone and iOS devices is going to make you sing its praises as it takes all the Christmas planning you have in mind, simplifies and helps you accomplish it. Here are some of the very productive features of this handy and clever app:

- Get organized by entering your events, or using the ideas already included under 4 major topics:
o      Action Dates
o      Activities
o      Master List
o       Helpful Hints

- Includes 7 Main Categories of Holiday Planning Events:

o      Decorating
o      Entertaining & Parties
o      Food & Drink
o      Gift Giving and Cards
o      Other
o      Volunteering & Family Traditions
o      After Christmas

- Each Main Category contains time periods ranging from 2 months till just after Christmas
- Fully customizable details allow you to enter your own upcoming dates and events
- Share event items with family and friends via email, or send yourself a task to be completed
- Add events to iCalendar and receive alerts as dates approach
- Print out a variety of template prepared Master Lists to keep handy
- Make use of Helpful Tips provided in every organizational category
- Beautiful, festive background is overlaid with a neat block list of items you may check off, add to, or customize
- Extremely easy to use app, however, you can find instructions at: firsttimeapp.com under the How To tab, if necessary

First impressions are important, and so I must say I was intrigued upon opening First Time Christmas to find colorful, glossy graphics depicting the warmth and happiness of this special holiday. The Home Page provides 4 productive, interactive options of: Action Dates, Activities, Master List and Helpful Hints, each in its own neat pencil image. Once you select any of these options, you can then start entering your thoughts and plans.

Action Dates prompts you to accomplish tasks in a certain time period appropriately in advance of Christmas. Use the check box in front of each activity to show your task completion. As in all the activities, when you tap the "+" button in the top right of your display, you may Add (task) to the Calendar, Email Task (keep track of whether task is “Pending” or “Done”), or Add a New Task. Activities brings you the list of 7 items mentioned in the Features list above which helps you carefully think about and schedule all the Christmas tasks in every possible arena. Add your planned events at a pre-set time, or use your preferred date. Master List is a series of templates to note the various activities you must plan such as: Party List, Holiday Menu Planner, Grocery List, Gift List, Drink List, and more. You may either Email or Print Master List which is not customizable, but rather a helpful guide. Helpful Hints is a delightful collection of ideas which is of great benefit to those who have difficulty creating plans or entertainment activities.

So what do YOU need help with? Come on, don't be shy to say which planning items simply slip out of your reach! It seems to me that First Time Christmas covers the entire range of Christmas festivities when it comes to getting your cards (invitation or greeting) ready in time, planning a social event, decorating your home, shopping, etc.

I particularly like the Volunteering & Family Traditions planner which provides helpful ideas, one of which is serving the less fortunate - perhaps children with no parents who will never open their eyes to see a gift laden tree. Helpful Tips I applaud for it includes items such as inserting a date on which to mail international gifts (so you don't have to pay double the cost to get them there on time), as well as buying a couple extra gifts for those who unexpectedly show up at your home during the holidays. Yes, I've been there and done that on both accounts so can thoroughly appreciate all these and the many other tips provided. Don't miss out on all the organization techniques found in First Time Christmas, for they will change your holidays from stressful to absolutely pleasurable.

COOL CONCLUSION: Let First Time Christmas be in charge of your holiday tasks and events, measuring what needs to be done and checking off tasks when completed, in a beautiful and neat comprehensive package.

appHiFi emulator

Developer Quote: "appHiFi emulator 2.1 is finally here - you have a pocket HiFi stereo! Increased definition, rediscovered clarity - your music library is totally sublimated."

- COST:     Free (Limited Time)     - APP STORE STARS:     4-1/2
- Categories: 3D, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Music, Native

Music can put the calm in your day when all else fails and you have lost the ability to cope with one more ridiculous problem or irritable client. It's at times like these you just need to sit back and let the music wash over you for its soothing effect. Probably you have a speaker dock where you can blast your music, although unless you get a high-end model, it won't sound like first-class stereo. But what if you could put on your headset and have the music delivered to you alone in gorgeous, clear sound?

appHiFi emulator provides this amazing kind of sound with your headphones on. In fact, you can choose from several ways to enjoy your music. Take a look at some of these unique qualities which this iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad audio and music 3D app delivers:

- HiFi sound- creates remarkable clarity and definition from your music
- Dynamic volume function- adjusts the volume of your music
- Access to your entire music library
- 3 high end HiFi systems emulated - also called (3 ROOMS)
- 3 EQ- for all headphone styles
- 2 EQ optimized for headphones provided by Apple (4/4S)
- A sleek yet simple, eye-catching interface

Let's think about the word "emulator" in the app's title. Well, an emulator is hardware or software that duplicates the functions of something so that the emulated or duplicated behavior is very similar to the real thing! Wearing your headphones and using appHiFi emulator is touted by the developer to be akin to sitting in a home theater. It's true because you could be out on the streets, in the subway or in the park enjoying the beauty of this home theater, 3-D sound.

Launch appHiFi to a gorgeous, high tech screen showing the Peak Power Level in decibels (or audio loudness) of your music. You can tap to change the color of the audio display. Tap the button named Open underneath this to select songs from your music library. You will be warned that this app is designed to be used with a headset, as playing the music without it won't give you the same cutting edge sound. Use the play control buttons to go back and forth or pause your music. A banner screen states the current status of the music, the band and song.

The 3 buttons labeled Rooms reproduce audio heard from 3 different HiFi systems. Check them out to see which kind of sound you prefer. Additionally, to enhance the already great quality of your songs, try using using one of the 3 preset EQ or equalizer options. Lastly, tap the HiFi button to listen to your music with or without HiFi 2.1. All these preset buttons make it easy to enjoy your music intuitively without fussing with controls to get the sound right.

The rooms each lend a different kind of sound to your music, along with the pre-set equalizer buttons. (I think I'm hooked on Room 1). Tap the HiFi button to turn off this clear sound and revert to regular sound. appHiFi emulator is a revolutionary way to listen to music that's been pumped up with crystal clear, 3-D sound.

COOL CONCLUSION: Put on your headphones, launch appHiFi emulator, and enjoy 3-D crystal clear, audio sound that can transport your mind away to your zen spot, without disturbing anyone else or requiring an expensive theater system in your home!

Developer Quote: "CogniFit is the ultimate brain training app. Play different brain games to challenge your mind and train your cognitive skills like you never did before!"

- COST:     Free     - APP STORE STARS:     N/A
- Categories: Education, Entertainment, Health and Fitness, iPad, Lifestyle, Medical, Native, Puzzle, Science

We spend a great deal of time focusing on maintaining physical health, flexibility, stamina and endurance. These are all major areas of continuous self-improvement. However, it is equally important not to forget the crucial areas of our brain and mental fitness in keeping ourselves in tip-top shape from head to toe. Doctors have stated the importance of keeping your mind alert by completing puzzles and activities of all kinds on a daily basis. This is no old wive's tale and is purely scientific. So what can you do to maintain the agility and flexibility of the mind of yourself, family and friends?

Look no further than CogniFit Brain Fitness for iPad. This very noteworthy and scientific app uses specific technology to keep your mind alert, fit and working to its peak ability. CogniFit is available on the App Store for both iPhone and iPad; however, this review is about the iPad version. Using the beautiful retina display with large, clear and sharp graphics is the perfect way to experience this app. Let's take a look at some of the intelligent features of this health and fitness, brain power training iPad app:

- Train your brain on the go
: Assess yourself and discover your cognitive and mental health

- Get personalized results for key cognitive abilities such as your memory, focus and attention

- Train with the CogniFit patented personalized training or decide to play single games

- Compare your scores with others if you wish
- Challenge and play with your friends and other from around the world
- Get new neurons each time you train and unlock additional features
- Cognitive skills and abilities you will train include:
Auditory Short-Term Memory, Contextual Memory, Distance Estimation, Divided Attention, Focus, Eye-Hand Coordination, Response Time, Spatial Perception and many other crucial abilities

Start Training to learn how to use this app. There are simple but helpful instructions along with a graphic explaining the required skills for each task. For instance when I trained on Word Quest, skills included: Working Memory, Divided Attention, Spatial Perception and Planning. I was presented with a word box puzzle in which I had to find the hidden words based on the corresponding graphics. The Aztec style images are authentic looking stone and symbols and wording is easy to read. The next training item was Mouse Challenge in which you must tap quickly on items in a specific order. Hit the big red button at the correct time to eliminate the cows. If you tilt your device, the cross-hair will move over each animal. Other games included are: Crossroads, Fuel a Car, Jigsaw, Mahjong, Whack-A-Mole and Words Birds. Once I had completed Training, a summary was displayed on the status of my abilities. Let me say I definitely intend to improve my mental acuity!

Now on to more fun and brain teasing! I picked the activity named Crossroads to further stimulate my mind. At this point, you can Create a Challenge with a friend, or Play without Neurons. Cognitive skills involved were: Updating, Visual Scanning and Focus. I chose to Play without Neurons. In this activity, prevent rolling balls from colliding by tapping them when two approach an intersection in a head-on collision course. Glossy colored balls on turf with a board comprised of grid stones roll at their own momentum. Be quick to tap and avoid a collision! This is an exciting physics puzzler game reminding me that everyone in the family can fully enjoy these mind and flexibility games. Eye catching graphics and smooth operations make each activity a joy!

How can CogniFit Brain Fitness for iPad benefit you? Use it to possibly aid in the prevention of Alzheimer's Disease, Dementia, Parkinsons, ADHD, Multiple Sclerosis and other neurological diseases. In fact, Cognifit has been reviewed in many scientific publications which recognize the huge benefits of these health activities. One example of published acclaim is in the following paragraph on their site: "Shatil E, Korczyn AD, Peretzc C, et al. - Improving cognitive performance in elderly subjects using computerized cognitive training - Alzheimer's & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association 2008; 4(4):T492". There are many more testimonials from well recognized associations.

Use this app to continue the training and learning benefits provided on the Cognifit site. Combing through the scientific information on the site will have you totally convinced in no time of the huge health and mental benefits of CogniFit. After all, "Active brain cells receive more blood and stimulate the migration of beneficial brain-stem cells". Once you have used CogniFit to coax your mind to higher intelligence, you will soon have a daily routine which includes all the well-created and highly functional included activities.
