Colorful, shifting, ever-changing kaleidoscopes have always fascinated me. Remember as a child those cylinders through which you could view colorful crystals which moved with your every rotation? Now with iOrnament - The Art of Symmetry, use your finger or stylus to create line segments or strokes, and the app repeats these in a pattern according to the 17 wallpaper groups included. Using this mathematical formula, amazingly colorful designs are drawn to delight all ages.
Still, this app is not just about playing mindless games! iOrnament also contains an interactive pop-up book that describes the mathematical backgrounds pertaining to the wallpaper groups. Some of the features of this beautiful, scientific, kaleidoscope universal iPhone and iPad app are as follows:
• Full support of all 17 wallpaper groups
• Artistic color palette and pen
• Glow pen to add highlights
• English and German language support
• Export to photos, e-mail and facebook
• Adjustable color palette
• Extensive collection of tips for usage
• Preview of symmetries and fundamental cells
• Animated drawing process
• Change symmetry type on the fly
• Scroll, zoom and rotate
• Interactive tutorial on math backgrounds
• Sampler of classical ornaments
• Based on mathematical theory
The design of iOrnament is based on the kind of stuff you see in science exhibitions. This kind of symmetrical and colorful creation is of great interest to child and adult both. The patterns are mesmerizing. The developer explains that, "Each infinite regular Ornament that has specific symmetry properties defined by its mirror axes, rotation centers and glide reflections, belongs to one of the wallpaper groups". Enjoy the gorgeous palette of colors and pens, and start making your own beautiful ornaments with intricate designs.
